PM Modi launches Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission on his visit to Varanasi today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday i.e., 25th October launched the Ayuhman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, which is one of the largest pan-India schemes aiming to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, on his visit to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

PM Modi also inaugurated other development projects worth over INR 5200 crore for Varanasi.

One of the largest pan-Indian schemes, The Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure aiming to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the country, is an addition to the National Health Mission.

The objective of the mission is to fill the gaps in the public health infrastructure, particularly in the critical care facilities and primary care in urban and rural areas.

The scheme is expected to support 17,788 rural healthcare and wellness centers in 10 high focused states. While 11,024 urban health and wellness centers are to be established under the mission, in all states.

With this, people living in districts with over five lakh populations across the country will get access to critical care services through exclusive critical hospital blocks, while the other districts will be covered through referral services.

People will also be provided access to a full range of diagnostic services in the public healthcare system via a network of laboratories across India, and integrated public health labs will be set up in all the districts.

While under the Ayuhman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, a national institution for one health, four new national institutes for virology, a regional research platform for WHO South-East Asia region, nine biosafety level-III labs, and five new regional national centers for disease control will also be set up.
