PM Narendra Modi in G20 Summit: PM Modi met Pope Francis in Vatican City Today

Prime Minister Narendra Mod landed in Rome yesterday ahead of the G20 Summit. Today, the Prime Minister went to Vatican City to meet Pope Francis for the first time. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar accompanied him.

The Prime Minister held one-to-one meeting with Francis today and also invited him to India. The meeting was scheduled for just 20 minutes but continued for an hour, informed news agency PTI.

PM’s personal twitter handle tweeted, “Had a very warm meeting with Pope Francis. I had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues with him and also invited him to visit India.”

Reportedly, Prime Minister Modi and Pope Francis discussed wide range of issues to make the planet better place to live such as addressing climate change issues and eradication of poverty.

The meeting took place before the delegation-level talks during which both of them are expected to discuss several issues, including COVID-19.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, “I believe tradition is not to have an agenda when you discuss issues with His Holiness. And I think we respect that. I'm sure the issues that will be covered would cover a range of areas of interests in terms of the general global perspectives and issues that are important to all of us.”

Prime Minister will also be heading to Glasgow on the invitation of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to take part in COP-26 meeting
