Pritish Nandy Death: The death of Pritish Nandy at the age of 73 has brought a standstill moment in the fields of art, literature, cinema, and journalism. He succumbed to death due to a cardiac arrest at his home in South Mumbai on 8 January 2025. He is survived by his wife Rina, and three children, Kushan, Ishita, and Rangita.

Nandy was a remarkable writer, filmmaker, poet, animal rights activist, journalist, Rajya Sabha member, and painter.
He was born to Satish Chandra Nandy and Prafulla Nalini Nandy on 15 January 1951 in Bhagalpur, Bihar. He completed his education t La Martiniere College and briefly went to the Presidency College in Kolkata. His academic years laid the foundation for his skills in multi-foray.

Nandy is credited with authoring more than 40 books of English poetry and has translated seminal works in Bengali, Urdu, and Punjabi in English. He is considered one of the pioneer figures in Modern Indian Literature.
He published his first volume of poetry at the age of 16 titled, ‘Gods and Olives’. The popularity of his first set of poems paved the way for other works published and widely read in the upcoming year. His poem ‘Calcutta If You Must Exile Me’ is considered one of the pioneering works in modern Indian literature.
He has served as the publishing director of The Times of India in the 1980s, and the managing director, editor, and publisher of The Illustrated Weekly of India. He has also worked with Filmfare and The Independent.
His Television career is also elaborated. He has presented more than 500 news on channels across Doordarshan, ZeeTV, and Sony TV.
Nandy ventured into the space of cinema with Pritish Nandy Communications in 1993. He is credited with some of the most notable films of the time including Jhankaar Beats,” “Chameli,” “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi,” and “Pyaar Ke Side Effects.”
He also bankrolled Prime Video’s original series ‘Four More Shots Please! ’ which received an International Emmy nomination in 2020. His most recent work ‘Modern Love Mumbai’ won much critical acclaim.

During his years in the film industry, he has made around 24 films which have won several awards and nominations.
Nandy was also a member of the Rajya Sabha for six years representing Maharashtra on a Shiv Sena Ticket.
Nandy founded India’s first animal rights NGO and opened India's first cyber café at Hotel Leela Kempinski in Mumbai in 1996.
In 1997, he was honored with the Padma Shri, at the age of 26 for his contribution to Indian literature. He received the Karamveer Puraskar in 2008, the International Humanitarian Award at the Genesis Awards 2012 in Hollywood, and the Bangladesh Liberation War Award received from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Nandy lived a lavish life and did philanthropy. As per reports, his production house PNC had a net worth of Rs. 76 crores.
