Raj Thackeray Questions The Purity Of Ganga River; Denies Touching Its ‘Holy Water’

09 Mar, 2025

National News:  Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chairperson Raj Thackeray questioned the purity of the sacred river Ganga, where millions took a holy bath during the Maha Kumbh Mela held recently in Prayagraj.

Addressing a crowd in Pune, he said that he cannot touch the water of a river where millions have taken a bath. His speech compared the river waters of foreign states with that of India, where we worship the rivers with the reverence of mothers and goddesses; however, their water is contaminated by the very population that prays to it.

His controversial comments did not sit well with many Hindu ‘Sanatani’ leaders, who responded by saying that he can have his personal choices but cannot disrespect the sentiments of a religious community by calling the river Ganga ‘dirty’ or ‘impure’.
