Rajat Patidar Biography: The India Vs England Test Series has allowed many budding Indian cricketers to shine and prove their potential to become the next big thing in Indian cricket history. Cricketers including Sarfaraz Khan, Akash Deep, Dhruv Jurel, and others made their International Test Debut this year. Amongst them was Indore’s Rajat Patidar who made his test debut in the second match of the series on February 2, 2024, as a replacement for KL Rahul. Rajat Patidar Background & Education

Rajat Manohar Patidar was born on June 1, 1993, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Patidar went to New Digamber Public School in Indore, where he finished his primary and secondary education. He eventually graduated from Indore University. He joined a cricket club at the age of 8 and was later enrolled in an academy by his grandfather. He began his career as a bowler before shifting his focus to batting after reaching the U-15 level.

Rajat Patidar Domestic and T20 Career

Rajat Patidar received his first senior domestic cap against Baroda on October 30, 2015, during the Ranji Trophy. He represented Madhya Pradesh at both the U-19 and U-22 levels in cricket. Patidar amazed everyone by scoring a half-century and a century in his first two innings. 

Later, on December 11, 2015, Rajat Patidar made his List-A debut for Madhya Pradesh against Saurashtra, scoring a terrific 53 off 40 balls as an opener. Patidar was selected for the Madhya Pradesh T20 team two years later. He made his debut on January 8, 2018, against Rajasthan, scoring 38 off 26 balls to become the team’s leading scorer. In the Ranji Trophy 2022 finals, Patidar scored 122, leading to a historic win of Madhya Pradesh against 41-time champions Mumbai by six wickets in Bengaluru.

Rajat has played 45 T20 matches and scored 1466 runs, with his highest score of 112 not out and a strike rate above 140. In 44 T20 innings, the right-handed batsman has scored 117 fours and 72 sixes. Rajat scored a century for Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has scored 1,648 List-A runs in 50 innings. Meanwhile, his first-class total is 3795 runs in 52 matches, with an average of 45.72. 

Rajat Patidar IPL Records

Rajat Patidar signed with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2021 for a base price of Rs 20 lakh. He scored 71 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 114.52 before being benched for the rest of the IPL 2021 season. Patidar was later removed from the team prior to the IPL 2022 auction and remained unsold. However, after Luvnith Sisodia was injured, Patidar returned to RCB and made sure to mark his comeback, scoring 333 runs in just seven innings while striking at 152.75. Patidar scored his first IPL century, 112 off 54 balls, including 12 fours and seven sixes, during the Eliminator match between RCB and Lucknow Super Giants on May 25, 2022. 

Rajat Patidar was retained by RCB ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction and was expected to make an impact during the season, but unfortunately was ruled out due to a Heel injury. He was selected by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2024 IPL season. 

Rajat Patidar International Records

Rajat Patidar made his Test debut in the second Test of the India-England Test Series 2024. Rajat Patidar was included in the ODI team for the South Africa and New Zealand tours of India in 2022 and 2023, respectively, but did not bat in either event. He eventually made his ODI debut on December 21, 2023, in the third ODI of India’s tour of South Africa. He scored 22 runs off 16 balls, contributing to India’s victory.
