Bharatmala Road Project: The Modi Government is now considering replacing the second phase of the Bharatmala Road Project with ‘Vision 2047’ worth Rs 20 Lakh Crores, as per reports. For the uninitiated, the government authorised the first phase of the Bharatmala Project in 2017, which resulted in the construction of 34,800 km of roads. The second phase of the Bharatmala Project called for the construction of 5,000 km of highways at a cost of Rs 3 lakh crore. The second phase was likely to be approved this year.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways recently submitted the Vision 2047 plan to the Council of Ministers and anticipates that particular projects within the plan will be adopted independently by the cabinet. Vision 2047 is expected to be a far more extensive undertaking than the Bharatmala project. Access control highways ranging in length from 30,000 to 35,000 km will be built across the nation by 2047. If appropriate funding is granted, the ministry expects to finish this work within the following 13-14 years. The Bharatmala projects will also be included in the project.
