Fraud Alert: Nitin Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, has issued a warning about a new scam that has recently come to his attention. He claimed that the scammers were attempting to defraud investors in the name of rewards. Cautioning investors, Kamath stated that some people are now making videos of trading platform statements, ledgers, and bank accounts using fake clone apps that show videos with fake screenshots.
Nithin Kamath posted about the new scam on his social media account on the X app, stating that a new type of scam has emerged in which a scammer poses as a fake employee of Zerodha meets the customer and attempts to defraud him of lakhs of rupees. The scammer created a fake Zerodha employee ID and met with a Zerodha customer. He enticed the customer with the promise of a Rs 5 crore prize in exchange for a Rs 1.8 lakh registration fee. To persuade the customer, the scammer displayed fake bank statements. However, the customer did not pay the money and requested that Zerodha investigate so that everyone got alerted about the fraud.
