Hansal Mehta directed Netflix Drama ‘Scoop’ is gaining a lot of attention due to its tremendous storyline and remarkable performances. The thriller drama series is no doubt one of the best shows of this year, raising the bar higher. Scoop is a powerfully written and well-performed story, starring the gorgeous Karishma Tanna, who powerfully portrayed her role as a journalist, making us fall in love with her screen presence.
Scoop is based on real-life events that scrutinise the Indian media and law enforcement organisations, dramatising the tale of a female journalist who was penalised for her ambition and boldness. Karishma Tanna stands out the most in the series, giving her a role supported by the author and a lifelong character arc. Scoop has beautifully depicted the progression of the confident, professional woman to the defeated and hopeless one.
The six-part Netflix series, which was created by Hansal Mehta and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul, focuses on a victimised woman, and a detailed account of how the media, the police, the legal system, and the underworld work together to harass anyone who dared to look for unfavourable truths. The three main points in the story include an attempt to expose the workings of the crime branch, the daylight murder of a veteran crime reporter, and the malicious media trial of a younger writer detained for her suspected role in the murder.

The series closely relates to journalist Jigna Vora’s nonfiction book, Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison, which describes the months she spent in court-ordered detention while awaiting trial. The plot of the episode develops slowly as it reveals the challenges of seeking the truth and opposing the power of the establishment. Scoop respects the journalism profession and recognises the risks involved, but it also criticises the present tendency of clickbait media for creating a volatile environment.
Along with Karishma, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Prosenjit Chatterjee in a cameo role, Harman Baweja, Tanmay Dhanania, and Tannishtha Chatterjee are playing key roles in the series, which premiered on 2nd June, 2023 on Netflix.
