Summer Vacations: Time for fun and games has been cut short for young children due to the sweltering weather in the country. With not much left to do indoors and stopping them from getting outdoors in the sun, parents feel compelled to increase their screen time with phones, TV, or video games. Try these fun, and engaging activities to keep your kids happy and entertained this summer without compromising on their health due to the adverse effects of the screen.

Scavenger Hunt

Make your house your battlefield. Ask your kids to find a list of items that you have hidden in different corners of your house. The game not only raises their thrill for winning but also teaches them problem-solving while honing their executive functioning skills.

Chalk Art

Find a corner of your house you're willing to have swamped in chalk and let the creativity of your kid flow on that wall or sidewalk. This will engage their fine motor skill. Moreover, this way you don’t have to stop them from coloring on the wall but just ask them to do it over a designated space.

Hopscotch

A staple, nostalgic game of Indian summer, Hopscotch will be helpful in their physical movement indoors. With the skill of hoping they will develop balance and coordination while tossing a stone would work on their hand-eye coordination.

No Fire Cooking

Children are always fascinated by what the adults are doing. Cooking is one such thing. Channel their creativity in a safe environment by providing them challenges of no-fire cooking. You can arrange the required food items requiring assembling or a little help to prepare.

Puzzles

While board games are a popular indoor sport, puzzles are often overlooked as boring. Again lead by doing rather than telling example. Play puzzles amongst each other to pique the interest of children and then invite them to take part. Puzzles help children develop memory skills as well hone their ability to problem solve and plan and test ideas.

Charades

Old but gold, Charades is a fun and engaging way to develop healthy social skills while also learning to understand emotions with the help of facial and hand gestures. You can make charades informative by replacing the movie names with their educational terms and definitions.

These activities provide a variety of engaging, educational, and fun ways for children to spend their summer days indoors, fostering creativity, learning, and family interaction.
