Shein comeback in India: After BGMI return to India, here is another banned website making a comeback in India. Popular women's fashion shopping website Shein, which was among the list of many Chinese websites banned in India previously, is set to bounce back in business again in the country. The high end fashion fast retailer, which offers a variety of affordable ensembles, targeting young women and their choice of trendy outfits is reportedly gearing for a comeback under the umbrella support of Reliance Retails.
Being extremely popular among the Youth of India, Shein’s comeback will serve as one of the fantastic news for the fashion enthusiasts. Reliance Retail and Chinese fashion giant Shein are forming a strategic partnership to enter the Indian market, marking a significant development over two years after the Indian government imposed a ban on Shein's app. Shein will reportedly benefit from Reliance Retail's warehouse, shipping, and sourcing capabilities through this partnership, and will also have access to a wide range of their online and physical stores. It's important to note that while Shein was first established in China, its corporate headquarters have now moved to Singapore and thereby its possible that the Indian govt. no more looks at it as a Chinese government.
Shein faced a multitude of controversies leading up to its ban in India, and it continues to face scrutiny in the United States due to concerns regarding privacy. Notably, Shein, along with 58 other apps, gained infamy when the Indian government imposed a ban on them in June 2020. This ban was a result of the deteriorating bilateral relations between India and China following a border dispute in mid-2020. Since Shein's departure from the Indian market, startups like Urbanic have emerged, offering affordable fashion clothing options to the country's youth. It would be interesting to see how the brands will maintain their competitive edge.
