Men's Skincare: Skincare may seem like a daunting task for some. It also carries the invisible and irrelevant connotations of something that girls do. So dear inquisitive fellow men, if you have been scratching your head to understand what is skincare, how do you do it, and most importantly where to begin, this article can help you in doing the “girl maths” of skincare that's essential for anyone with a human skin and is not based in gender or sex.
Well, physiologically men and women tend to have different types of skin owing to their hormones. A few differences to note in the skin type of both sexes are texture, thickness of skin, oil production, and so on. Hence, men skincare so that the needs of your skin can be catered specifically.
This is a simple 5 steps skincare guide that you can wrap your head around to start from.
That’s literally all you need. Some of this you are most probably using even now.
Cleansing
First things first do a general search to find out what your skin type is to get a cleanser that best suits it.
Cleansing refers to gently taking away the dirt and grime of the day along with pollution and oil off your face. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser preferably twice a day or you can wash it with a wish cleanser at night and just splash some water in the morning. This will remove all the impurities, dirt, oil, and other types of gunk from your skin to refresh you. Easy right?
Exfoliating
The next step is to exfoliate. The skin throughout the skin accumulates dead skin cells on top clogging your pores and ruining your skin texture. Exfoliation will help you gently remove the dead skin cells to unclog pores and promote cell turnover for a smoother complexion. It will help you combat acne and ingrown hair (which you are very prone to due to regular shaving.)
Do this only once or twice a week!
Moisturise
Men's skin tends to produce more oil than women but that does not mean you can skip moisturising. Moisturisation serves multiple purposes. It of course moisturises your skin and strengthens it by building a moisture barrier while nourishing it and protecting it from environmental stressors.
SPF
Wear your sunscreen no matter what the weather is! You are exposed to sun rays whenever there is sun in the sky. Opt for a broad-spectrum, sunscreen with SPF higher than 30 and apply it religiously every day. Use the two fingers (index and middle) to measure how much cream you need for your face, neck, ears, and rest of exposed skin.
Tips: You can skip this step or the previous step by investing in a product that moisturizes and protects from the sun.
Eye Cream
The skin around the eyes is more sensitive and deserves some extra care. So look for a formulation of eye cream specifically targeting your needs like puffiness, dark circles etc, fine lines, etc. Use it regularly morning and night.
That’s all with these simple steps you can start your skincare journey.
