26 Sep, 2023

Latest Business News:  A recent analysis titled “State of Workers 2023 Report” released by Azim Premji University’s Centre for Sustainable Employment provides insights into the new social, economic, and cultural prospects that are emerging for employees as well as their families and children. The journey of workers in various sectors is covered in this study, along with their difficulties, accomplishments, and hardships. The State of Working India 2023 analysis of company ownership data reveals that general castes are over-represented in major firms.

What Does The Report Says?

According to the report, the proportion of Dalit regular wage employees (labourers who get regular jobs) witnessed a growth between 1983 and 2021. This is, however, far smaller than the share of regular-wage employees from general castes. In 2021, 22% of all regular-wage employees were from Scheduled Castes and OBCs, 14% from tribals, and 32% from general castes. Self-employment is also more common among general caste employees than among scheduled category workers. In 2004, 85.5% of the Dalit casual employees were individuals whose sons were also casual labourers. The situation improved marginally in 2018, with the figure rising to 75.6%.
