Supreme Court on Babri Masjid: All the petitions related to the disputed structure of Ayodhya closed, know what is the reason

The Supreme Court has decided to close all cases related to the demolition of the disputed structure located in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, this information was given on 30 August. The court has also closed all the contempt petitions filed regarding this. All these petitions were filed in 1992 against the state government and some of its officials for failing to prevent the demolition of the structure.

Why are the proceedings closed

While giving a verdict to close the contempt proceedings on the demolition of the Babri Masjid structure, the Supreme Court said that the contempt petition should have been listed earlier but after the November 9, 2019 judgement of the Supreme Court deciding the Ayodhya land dispute between Hindus and Muslims. This issue does not stand anywhere in front, so the contempt proceedings are closed.

In fact, a three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, while veiling the matter, said that nothing is left in the matter now. In this particular contempt case, the late BJP leader and former Chief Minister of the state, Kalyan Singh, had served a day's sentence. Let us tell you that on 6 December 1992, kar sevaks demolished the Babri Masjid. Soon after this, Kalyan Singh resigned from the post of CM of UP. The next day i.e. on December 7, 1992, the Narasimha Rao government of the Centre dismissed the government of UP.

What was the case

On 6 December 1992, the disputed Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished. The mosque built in Ayodhya in the 16th century was demolished by kar sevaks. Two FIRs were registered in this case in Faizabad. Case registered against lakhs of kar sevaks including BJP leader LK Advani, Uma Bharti. Due to this tension spread throughout the country. More than two thousand people died in the riots across the country.
