Known for her fearless choices on screen, Taapsee has carved a niche for herself as an actor bringing complex and flawed female characters on screen to allow them to have cinematic and actual space. She is a trailblazer in women-centric roles challenging societal norms, shattering stereotypes around women, and redefining the narrative of women on screen.

Biographies: Bringing real to reel

Taapsee has essayed the lead role in several biographical films using her skills to bring the story of real-life heroines to the world. In ‘Shabaash Mithu’, Taapsee stepped into the shoes of former Indian Women’s Cricket Team captain, Miihtali Raj chronicling her struggles and rise in the sport which is revered for its male players in India.

With Rashmi Rocket, she shouldered the responsibility of highlighting the issue of gender testing several Indian sportswomen had to go through due to their diagnosis of hyperandrogenism. She plays the titular role of Rashmi Chibber aka Rashmi Rocket, an Indian track and field athlete from Bhuj, Gujarat.

Taking the role of one of the ‘Shooter Dadi’ from India, Taapsee plays Prakashi Tomar from Uttar Pradesh in ‘Saand Ki Aankh’. ‘Mission Mangal’, and ‘Soorma’ are among the other biographical drama films to her credit.

Breaking Stereotypes

Taapsee has actively opted for roles that challenge the stereotypes against women. The perceived belief of women’s being physically lesser than men was challenged with her character in ‘Naam Shabana’, ‘Baby’, and ‘The Ghazi Attack’

Shifting focus toward the often neglected emotional and psychological strength of women are her roles in ‘Soorma’ and ‘Mulk’. The fight for what’s right and the legal power our system fails to pass to their women are highlighted in ‘Thappad’, ‘Pink’,

Allowing women to be flawed humans is a statement she makes with ‘Manmarziyaan.’

With ‘Haseen Dillruba’ the actress brought to screen a scheming, desiring, and cunning woman on screen who is willing to denounce the notions of purity and righteousness for doing what her heart desires.
