Tahira Kashyap Cancer Relapse: Ayushmann Khurrana’s Wife Diagnosed With Breast Cancer Again, All You Need to Know

12 Apr, 2025

Tahira Kashyap Cancer: Tahira Kashyap, the wife of Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, has been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time after being treated in 2018. Tahira underlined the importance of early detection and diagnosis when posting her health update on social media. Breast cancer is the most frequent malignancy among women worldwide, including in India, where more than 1.5 lakh cases are diagnosed each year. The most common symptom—found in 80-90% of cases—is a breast lump. Other signs may include nipple retraction, bloody discharge, changes in breast size or form, and swelling in the armpits or neck. While prevention is difficult with breast cancer, early identification through regular screenings is critical. Women with a high genetic risk may also choose preventive operations, such as risk-reducing mastectomy and subsequent breast reconstruction.

Breast Cancer Relapse

Breast cancer is divided into four phases: early-stage (stages 1 and 2), locally advanced (stage 3), and metastatic (stage 4), in which the cancer spreads to other organs. Stage 3 can still be successfully treated with a mix of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy. Chemotherapy is usually given first, over a period of 4 to 6 months, followed by surgery—either a partial or total mastectomy—and then radiotherapy for 3 to 4 weeks. In certain circumstances, hormone therapy or targeted treatments continue after radiation. Regular follow-up is essential: every three months for the first two years, every six months after that, and annually after five years. Routine mammography and clinical checks are advised during follow-up visits.
