The Vaccine War Box Office Collection Day 3: Vivek Agnihotri’s Bio-Science Film Earns Rs 3.2 Cr With a Slow Start

The Vaccine War Story:  The Vaccine War, Vivek Agnihotri’s latest film, was released on September 28, 2023, with a bleak box office performance. The film faced stiff competition from Fukrey 3 and Chandramukhi 2. At the box office, Fukrey 3 has already made Rs 27.93 crore, while Chandramukhi 2 has earned Rs 11.75 crore. Based on the book ‘Going Viral’ by Prof Balram Bhargava, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the film showcases the efforts of the Indian medical community, who were able to develop India’s indigenous COVID-19 vaccine ‘Covaxin’ in a matter of only seven months when Corona was on its peak, claiming lives of a mass population around the globe.

After a sluggish start on its first day, the film’s performance improved slightly on Saturday, but it still failed to draw even a decent section of audience. A sudden boost in numbers was recorded on the third day of its screening, after collecting Rs 85 lakh and Rs 90 lakh on the first and second days, respectively. According to Sacnilk, the film collected an estimated Rs 1.50 crore on its third day, an increase of about 68 percent over the previous day, bringing its total revenue to Rs 3.25 crore.

As Vivek Agnihotri’s previous film ‘The Kashmir Files’ took the whole nation by storm and earned a massive response from the viewers, the audience was quite excited and expected something big from ‘The Vaccine War’, but the film only had a 16.30% occupancy in Hindi. While night shows had an average footfall of 20.31 percent, evening and afternoon shows had occupancy rates of 18.79 and 15.73 percent, respectively. Only 10.38 percent of people attended the morning shows.

The Vaccine War Review

The Vaccine War, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, is a biography about Indian scientists who worked on producing a COVID-19 vaccine. The film stars Nana Patekar, Pallavi Joshi, Raima Sen, Anupam Kher, and Sapthami Gowda in key roles, among others. The first part of the movie can be a bit overwhelming because there is simply too much science and terminology used in labs. However, once the coronavirus isolation procedure and the vaccine development process take over, it would become easier to get a hang of the story.

The narrative traces the step-by-step development of Covaxin, which was created by Bharat Biotech in association with the ICMR and the National Institute of Virology (NIV). The medical drama revisits the incidents that occurred in India after the coronavirus epidemic broke in Wuhan, China. It also serves as a priggish retort to the harsh criticism the central government received for allegedly handling the epidemic poorly, which claimed a significant number of deaths in the country.
