The Indian short documentary The Elephant Whisperer received the Oscar for best short documentary. Kartiki Gonsalves made her directorial debut with the Oscar-winning The Elephant Whisperer, which had Guneet Monga as executive producer. The film follows the lives of a middle-aged couple from the Katunayaka tribal group who raised two orphaned elephants. While coming from a location where human-animal interaction has historically resulted in bad situations, one of the key aspects of the documentary has been their loving and caring attempts for the orphaned elephant calves.

During the shooting, two elephants by the names of Raghu and Ammu were used as support. where Raghu played the lead role. The Elephant Whispers is a real account of occurrences.
