Without a doubt, curvy girls are the easiest targets for free useless advice from almost everyone in their lives. Everyone has an opinion about your body, from "diet kar le" to "cover your cleavage." Here are a few things curvy girls are sick of hearing!

What is Fat Shaming?

Fat shaming is the practise of criticising and harassing obese people about their weight or eating habits in order to make them feel ashamed of themselves. It is hoped that this will encourage people to eat less, exercise more, and lose weight. The majority of people who fat-shame others are slim and have never struggled with their weight.

According to research, much of the obesity discussion on social media involves fat shaming, which frequently escalates into harassment and cyberbullying, particularly against women . Indeed, there are entire online communities dedicated to making fun of overweight people.

Stigma and discrimination against overweight people, on the other hand, cause significant psychological harm and exacerbate the problem.

How to React to Fat Shaming?

  • It is not necessarily your responsibility to educate others. If you don't have the energy or aren't in the right frame of mind to respond in a way that truly protects yourself, don't feel obligated to do so. If you encounter body shaming online, simply block the perpetrators.

  • If anybody body shames you in real life, it's fine to leave the situation and find a safe place. You are not required to provide an explanation.

  • If you have the time and desire to challenge body shaming, you could say something like, "I try not to talk negatively about bodies," or "I find it really triggering when people say negative things about bodies," or "what a strange world we live in where people feel they can judge each other's bodies."
