This Loss Felt Like A Personal Loss: A Recollection of Andre Braugher, Matthew Perry, & Richard Roundtree

Popular Sitcom Actors Lost: Sitcoms have carved a space for them in the busiest of schedules, and most intense moods. Friends, How I Met Your Mother, and Brooklyn 99 cease to exist just as TV shows for many of us and rather gradually make a space of their own in our hearts, next to watch lists and memes on socials because of their relatable characters. Therefore, the loss of actors who played characters in these shows was more than just an actor dying for us.  

Andre Braugher

Andre Braugher is best remembered for his portrayal of Captain Raymond Cold in the comic detective fiction sitcom,  Brooklyn 99. The news of his demise left the television industry in grief of course, however for the people who grew up watching the eccentric Captain Colt, it felt unreal. A character that has been immortalized on the reels. 

The American actor was best known for shows like Homicide: Death On the Street, Thief, The Practice, and Hack.

Matthew Perry 

You can’t lie that Chandler Bing became a part of one’s personality if they have watched Friends. It did not matter how much you liked him or not but everybody wanted to have some part of him. Many called his character the ‘heart’ of the show. He lost his life on 23 October 2023 but left a plethora of sarcasm, blunt humor, and well romantic life that’s not so romantic.

Richard Roundtree 

Richard Roundtree died on 24 October 2023. The actor was a part of the popular show Grey’s Anatomy where he played the role of Donald Bruke. He was also a part of Chicago Fire, Desperate Housewives, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and more. 

David McCallum

Known as secret agent Illya Kuryakin in the television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., David McCallum died on 25 September 2023. He has also been a popular character in the television series NCIS as Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, the team's chief medical examiner.

The emotional connection formed with these shows is owed to the resonating characters. These characters were no longer a portrayal but fellow entities whose language would be picked, punchlines would be used and behaviors would be imbibed, therefore the news of the actors who gave some of the most relatable characters feels like a personal loss.
