Tirupati Ladoo Case: Tirupati is a famous religious place, where pligrims and toudrists from around the world come to seek blessings and consume the “prasadam,” or ladoo. The history of this laddu, which is found in the form of offerings at Tirupati Balaji Temple, is very old. It is distributed among the devotees after offering it to the deity. However, according to latest media reports, the news of ghee adulterated with animal fat has created a stir all over the country. In the past few days, Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had expressed concern over a report by the National Dairy Development Board. (NDDB), claiming that the ghee used for the offerings at the temple is not pure.
During the investigation, the National Dairy Development Board found that the ghee used to make laddu contains fish oil, beef tallow, and lard. Beef tallow and lard are both fat of animals and look like ghee. Animal fat, which we know as ghee, oil, and other names, is a type of fat obtained from animals. It is used to increase and preserve the taste of certain foods. The amount of saturated fats in animal fat is quite high, which can be harmful to our heart health. This can increase cholesterol, which can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Using animal fats in desi ghee can be very dangerous for our health.
