25 Jul, 2022

In the presidential election, the NDA publicised the tribal female identity of its candidate Draupadi Murmu, now Margaret Alva, the opposition candidate for the Vice Presidential Election 2022. She has started seeking support by claiming herself as the first female Vice Presidential candidate. Margaret Alva says she will write to all lawmakers to support her as the first female vice presidential candidate.

Margaret Alva to ask support from CM Yogi and PM Modi

If Margaret Alva is to be believed, she will also seek support from UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to Alva, 'I have old relations with him. We have been friends ever since he was an MP. I will also talk to Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. The premise of seeking votes from everyone is that I am a woman and the first woman candidate for the post of Vice President before the country, so everyone should support me.

When she was questioned on PM Modi, she said, 'Why not. He is also an MP. I will appeal to them to vote as well. Referring to his contribution in the political and social field, Alva said that he has done a lot of work and is very popular among the people. 'Today I inaugurated the campaign office and I have started communicating with everyone.'

Support from Kejriwal too

Alva has started contacting the leaders. After meeting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Margaret Alva spoke to Assam CM Hemant Vishwasharma and Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai. Alva, the opposition candidate for the Vice Presidential election, filed her nomination for the Vice Presidential election on 19 July.

The opposition parties had on July 17 decided to field former Rajasthan governor and former Union minister Alva as their joint candidate for the vice-presidential election. Arvind Kejriwal did not attend a meeting of 17 opposition parties held at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar. Alva's candidature was decided in this meeting.
