First India to host the Emmys
Vir Das took to his Instagram account to share that he will be hosting the Emmy International Awards this year. The Emmys is organized by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In the caption of his post where he shared the announcement, and a news article about the same, he wrote “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host, I can't wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honored and excited!”
Won First Emmy in 2023
In November 2023, Vir Das achieved the momentous feat of winning the International Emmy Awards 2023 for his Netflix Special ‘Vir Das: Landing’ in the Best Unique Comedy. He shared the award with Derry Girls - Season 3.

First Indian Comedian Nomination at Emmy
Vir Das etched his name in the history books by becoming the first Indian comedian to secure an Emmy International Award in the Comedy category in 2021. He won the nomination for his Netflix Special “Vir Das: For India”. Despite not clinching the trophy that year his nomination was a milestone for the country and established him on the global stage for his comedy genre.

First Indian to have a comedy special on Netflix
In 2017, Vir Das became the first Indian comedian to have a Netflix Original Comedy Special called “Abroad Understanding”. His stand-up stood out for its resonance with a global audience achieved by his sketch that was rooted in the themes of universal comedy. Shooting it in New Delhi and New York he explored cultural differences and global politics.
Hollywood Debut
Das made his Hollywood acting debut with ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ in 2019, playing the role of an Indian tech billionaire in the show.
Among his other notable International recognitions, Vir Das has been featured in Variety’s '10 Comics to Watch' list in 2017. He was a guest on Conan O'Brien’s show in January 2023.
