Vulture’s 2023 Annual Stunt Awards:  The second edition of Vulture’s 2023 Annual Stunt Awards is here, and Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’ have been making Indian action cinema shine at the international action film recognition platform. The movies with a recorded gross collection surpassing a thousand crores have found their due credit for their stupendous action choreography in the queue with Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One and Keanu Reeves’s John Wick Chapter 4.

Nominated in four categories

‘Jawan’ helmed by Atlee has the stunts choreographed by Hollywood’s Ferdi Fischer, who was also the action director for Fast & Furious X. His talents and skills have led Jawan to find a place in the three award categories of the Annual Stunt Awards, namely Best Stunt in an Action Film, Best Vehicular Stunt, both for the highway chase scene, and Best Overall Action Film.

Pathan on the other hand has earned a nomination in the Best Arieal Stunt category for the Jet Pack fight scene.

Tom Cruise & Keanu Reeves in the competition

Tom Cruises spy thriller ‘Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One’ competes with three nominations in Best Vehicular Stunt for the Rome car chase scene, Best Arial Stunt for the base jump scene, and Best Overall Action Film.

John Wick Chapter 4 of Keanu Reeves has bagged two nominations for the best stunt in an action film for the stair fight and fall scene, and Best vehicular scene for the Arc de Triomphe Scene.

Budget comparison of the three

The stark difference in the making budget of the three movies is noteworthy. SRK’s Jawan and Pathaan were made with a budget of Rs. 250 and Rs. 300 crores whereas the budget for Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One was a hefty 2420 crores and John Wick with a spent budget of 831 crores.

About Vulture’s 2023 Annual Stunt Awards

The annual stunt awards started with the aim of giving due recognition to the action scenes, choreographers, and actors. Stunts are not just moments inducing goosebumps but an integral part of the movie to take the narrative of the film to its zenith. It is surprising to note that giant international film awards like the Oscars fail to recognize the exertions and creativity used in choreographing an action-packed scene or a movie, but on the brighter side, it allows the Vultures to stand tall as one of its kind.

The award nomination in the Vulture’s 2023 Annual Stunt Awards is indeed a moment of pride for the Indian and Hindi film industry. Moreover, it also underscores the fact that the caliber of the industry is more than it has been recognized internationally.
