So let’s have a look at the story of this IAS topper who lost her sense of vision from both the eyes and still didn’t lose any hope. Cracking the UPSC exam in itself is an achievement, and doing it under atypical circumstances adds to the credibility. Poorna managed to clear her UPSC Exams in the 4th attempt in spite of her being not able to see and she praises the efforts of her parents to help her with the journey.

 

Poorna started preparing for her UPSC exam in 2016, but when she slowly started losing her vision when she was 5. Even the surgery couldn’t help Poorna get rid of this disease, and gradually she lost her vision completely after the surgery was declared unsuccessful. Poorna shares that when she was in 11th standard, she dreamt of becoming an IAS Officer and the idea of serving her nation used to inspire her. This lady from Tamil Nadu stated that the stories of IAS officers such as P Udhaichandran and U Sagayam used to inspire her a lot to become a civil servant.

 

After becoming an IAS Officer, Poorna wishes to serve as a Civil Servant for education, wealth and women empowerment sectors of the society. Her journey of becoming an IAS wasn’t an easy one and her parents were an integral part of that journey. Being unable to see, Poorna used to study through the audiobooks recorded by her parents and her friends. Poorna’s parents and friends even used to search for study material online which wasn’t easily available. 

Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif also tweeted about her success, praised her and shared an inspirational message about her difficult journey after her success.
