Did you know that cardiac problems are one of the major health concerns in India? To talk about it in detail we have with us Dr Sanjay Mittal from Medanta Hospital Gurugram in conversation with our Host Ms Vani Malik.
If the cholesterol level in blood increases it builds up in the walls of arteries. This affects blood flow towards the heart and increases pressure too. This also leads to atherosclerosis, a form of heart disease.
People often confuse their acidic pain to heart pain or via a verse. Acidity or heartburn tends to be worse after taking a big meal or when one sleeps after eating. But heart attacks can happen after a meal or before a meal too. Acidity can be relieved by drugs that reduce acid levels in the stomach. Heartburn does not cause more general symptoms, such as breathlessness. But heart attacks need urgent medical supervision.
A heart attack usually occurs when a blood clot blocks blood flow to the heart. When there's less blood flow tissue loses oxygen and dies. In short words it's a blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle.

Heart failure is a chronic condition in which the heart doesn't pump blood. Heart failure can occur if the heart cannot pump (systolic) or fill (diastolic) adequately.

If there's a history of heart disease family, one may have a higher risk of developing a heart condition.
Obese people require more blood to supply oxygen and nutrients to their bodies. This results in an increase in blood pressure. High blood pressure is also a common cause of heart attack, and it often increases risks of heart problems.
