As of now, the country has registered many cases of Black Fungus (Mucormycosis),  White Fungus, and also the Yellow Fungus infection.   

As per the latest reports, the first case of Yellow Fungus Infection has been registered in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, which has already been classified as a severe disease by medical and healthcare experts. 

While the disease hasn’t been notified by the healthcare experts or the government authorities, but it has already been categorized a much more menacing than the black and white fungus, and requires attention from the very initial stage, as is expected to cause severe internal damages. 

However, explained below are the symptoms, preventions, and other important information related to the Yellow Fungus infection, which is vital in saving our lives from fungal infection.

What is Yellow Fungus Infection?

Since the Black Fungus infection has already been tagged as an epidemic in various states of the country, Yellow Fungus isn’t something new. Much similar to other fungal infections, the Yellow Fungus infection spreads through the contaminated environment, or when a patient intakes molds (or myxomycetes) that grow in the environment. 

The Yellow Fungus infection is different from White and Black Fungus infections because the Mucormycosis initiates with distinct facial disfiguration, while the Yellow Fungus infection instigates an attack on the body’s internal organs and disturbs vital processes of the body.

While the impairment caused by the Yellow Fungus infection is said to be more perilous and the experts suggest people to identify and recognize the symptoms of the infection from the very first day and initiate treatment for the same.

Getting infected by the Yellow Fungus infection can be considered a primary or secondary infection, but the risk factor surges for the people who have low immunity, delicate health, or are already suffering from some comorbidities such as high cholesterol, and imbalance diabetes.

Moreover, people recovering from the Covid-19 virus are more likely to get infected by the Yellow Fungus infection considering their prolonged stay in ICUs and oxygen support, or constant intake of steroids. 

It must be noted that steroid intake is considered heavily responsible for a fall in the immunity of the patient and has now come under scrutiny by the prime medical authorities. 

Also, Fungal Infection can be developed on the skin after the fungus enters the skin through a cut, scrape, burn, or other skin damages.  

The Centres of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have stated that the risk of Fungal Infection is also huge for: 

  • People who experience prolonged stay under Intensive Care Units (ICUs)

  • Have undergone an organ transplant in the recent past, or are suffering from low WBCs counts or immunity complexations. 

  • Are dependent on vast steroid or antibacterial use. 

  • Are on Dialysis or have Kidney damage.
