WhatsApp, the messaging network owned by Meta, has continually improved its security procedures to protect user privacy and data. End-to-end encryption is already used in the application for personal messages to keep users' material private between sender and receiver. Furthermore, WhatsApp has lately launched various tools to improve account security, such as "silence unknown callers," "chat lock," and others.
According to Wabetainfo, a website that analyses WhatsApp's planned features, the instant messaging service is working on a new feature called email verification. This feature, however, will be optional. If this function is enabled, WhatsApp will request an email address for protection, which must then be validated. This feature is still in development, and there is no official word on when it will be available for testing to users. It will also be released in a stable version this year.
According to WAbetainfo, the email option is available on WhatsApp version 2.23.16.15, but this does not guarantee that the feature will be made public. As we have seen in the past, WhatsApp might easily decide to scrap the option in favour of something else. In any case, it is encouraging to see the platform experimenting with ways to protect the app, and WhatsApp continues to add new features at a rapid rate these days, making it popular among billions of users worldwide.
