Who is Justice BR Gavai? Learn All About The Newly Announced Chief Justice of India

New CJI:  Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai has been announced as the new Chief Justice of India. He will take the oath on 14 May, succeeding Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the 52nd CJI. 

Justice BR Gavai became the second Dalit to hold the post of the CJI after Justice KG Balakrishnan. 

But Justice Gavai will hold the office for only six months as his retirement is due in November. His career as a judge began in 2003, and today he is the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court after CJI Khanna.
