In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly declared the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment as World Environment Day. The first World Environment Day was celebrated in 1974 under the theme “Only One Earth,” emphasizing the interrelated nature of all life forms and the need for communal responsibility in preserving our planet.
