Mosquito Bite Prevention: Every year on August 20, World Mosquito Day is observed to remember Sir Ronald Ross's 1897 discovery of mosquitoes as the primary malaria vector. This day aims to raise public awareness of the adverse effects on public health due to mosquito bites, as well encourages efforts to prevent and control diseases spread by mosquitoes. It serves as a reminder of the continuous global campaign against diseases carried by these tiny but deadly insects, such as dengue, malaria, and Zika. In this video, Dr. Sunila Rana will share some tips to protect yourself from mosquito bites.
To keep mosquitoes at bay, start by applying mosquito repellent. Next, remove any sources of stagnant water near you, as mosquitos breed in such environments. This includes cleaning up dirt, changing the water in pots on a regular basis, and ensuring that water coolers are emptied and refilled weekly. Trim your lawn grass to eliminate mosquito hiding spots. Wearing loose, long-sleeved clothing can also help to keep your skin protected. Finally, avoid going outside during peak mosquito activity times, such as evenings or when it’s dark and rainy.
