XAT Preparation Strategy: Choosing a career domain after school works as a perfect nightmare for students. Well, few students are always prepared with what they want to do further in their lives, but this decision still haunts a considerable number of students out there. Despite having a sizeable number of career options, students usually get muddled due to the number of domains they can enter into. While nowadays, to enter into a particular stream, there are different entrance exams, and it ultimately becomes a challenge for a student to choose the correct fit for him/her. To choose an ideal career, a person should be well informed about how to get pave a path to that milestone he/she is dreaming about. So, if a person dreams about getting into the domain of management, he/she should know every bit of it, from entrance exams required to get into a college, to the salary what he/she will be earning after completing the studies. So, in this article, we will talk about XAT, an entrance exam conducted to get admissions into MBA/PGDM programs. 

 

Xavier’s Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level management entrance exam conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur to secure admissions into MBA/PGDM programmes. This test is accepted at XLRI, 10 other XAMI and other 700 business colleges for admissions to their post-graduate management programmes. 

 

Eligibility for XAT: 

To be able to appear for XAT exam, the eligibility criteria is given below:

The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration or equivalent in any discipline from a recognised university. Also, students in their final year of Bachelor’s degree or the ones awaiting their results can also apply for XAT.

 

How to apply for XAT exam: 

To apply for XAT exam online, you need to follow some steps which are listed below:

  • Go to the official website of XAT which is www.xatonline.in
  • Click on the registration tab and fill in details like name, phone number, email ID, password and Captcha.
  • A unique XAT ID and registration link will be generated on your verified email ID, candidates are required to click on that lin and verify your registration.
  • Now go to the XAT 2021 home page and log in to your account by filling in your email ID and password.
  • After this, XAT 2021 application form will appear.
  • Fill in all your credentials and click on ‘Pay’ to pay your application fee through any of the available online payment modes. 

   

Exam pattern and syllabus for XAT 2021: This exam is the most unique amongst all MBA entrance exams and is divided into four sections, unlike the CAT exam. The exam consists of 100 questions in all and the time limit to complete this exam is 180 minutes. The four sections in which the paper is divided are:

  • Verbal and logical ability
  • Decision making
  • Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
  • General Knowledge

The exam is further conducted in two parts: the first one consists of 75 questions from three sections namely; Verbal and logical ability, Decision making, Quantitative ability and Data interpretation. The second part consists of 25 questions from the GK section. The whole exam will be an MCQ test with 1 mark being awarded for every correct answer. And there will be a negative marking of 0.25 mark for every wrong answer.

 

The selection process for XAT 2021: The selection procedure for admissions after the XAT exam will be purely based on a cut-off basis. After this, the candidates who get shortlisted in the cut-offs have to go through further selection rounds which include the Group Discussion(GD) or/ Essay Writing and Personal Interview(PI). After going through these rounds, the candidates are selected based on their overall performance and are offered admissions into the participating institutes.   


 

Career opportunities after XAT:  Well, XAT is a post-graduate level exam which can get you admission in some of the prestigious colleges for MBA. After clearing XAT, you can enter into an MBA course and pursue your career further and shape it accordingly  by choosing any of the different streams offered, namely: 

  • MBA in Finance
  • MBA in Human Resource Management
  • MBA in Information Technology
  • MBA in Logistic Management
  • MBA in Marketing Management
  • MBA in Business Management
  • MBA in Rural Management
  • MBA in Health Care Management
  • MBA in Operations Management
  • MBA in Event Management
  • MBA in Business Analytics
