YG Entertainment’s Former CEO Arrested; Imprisoned for 6 months, 1 year of Probation

YG Entertainment’s Former CEO Arrested: Yang Hyun-Suk, the former CEO of YG Entertainment has been charged with the threat of retaliation and was found guilty by the Seoul High Court resulting in the conviction of YG Entertainment’s CEO.

Context

In 2016, a former YG artist Han Seo-Hee was arrested in a case of drug abuse. The investigation of the case revealed that B.I (Kim Hanbin) from iKON has allegedly bought drugs from Han Seo-Hee.

Hee later denied the allegation and the agency also supported remarking on the allegation as false. However, further investigation exposed a potential threat that has been looming over Han Seo-Hee for denying the statement; she might have been threatened by her CEO Hyun-Suk to protect the idol.

Court’s Verdict

On November 8, Seoul High Court’s criminal division conducted an appeal hearing on Yang Hyun-suk's offenses against the act of Enhanced Punishment for Certain Crimes concentrating on the charges for retaliation of threats.

Finding Hyun-suk guilty of the charges, the court verdict a six-month imprisonment and a probation of one year.

The court issued a closing statement stating “As the representative of YG, he misused his social standing and exercised dominance over B.I via reprimanding him, and therefore, he is deemed guilty.”

Over the series of multiple trials, it was established that the informant for the B.I drug case was stating the truth, leading to the imprisonment and probation of Yang Hyun-Suk.

YG Entertainment is known for forming the popular K-pop girl band BLACKPINK, moreover, they also have BIGBANG, 2NE1, and iKON, as their global talents.
