Abhishek Sharma Biography: After a terrific win at the T20 World Cup Finals against South Africa, India is all set for its T20 tour with Zimbabwe, and the new team led by Shubnam Gill has arrived in Harare and is all set for its first match on 6th July, Saturday. The Indian squad includes many promising young talents who have already displayed their potential in their respective IPL teams, and this time, former Indian cricketer and National Cricket Academy (NCA) Cheif VVS Laxman has replaced Rahul Dravid as the stand-in head coach of the Indian Team. The five-match series will be played at Harare Sports Club, with the fifth and final T20I taking place on Sunday, July 14.

Early Life & Cricket Debut

Abhishek was born on September 4, 2000, in Amritsar, Punjab. He is an all-rounder who bowls orthodox left-arm spin and bats with his left hand. The young cricketer rose to prominence after taking 57 wickets in the 2015-16 Vijay Marchant Trophy Tournament. His father, Raj Kumar Sharma, was a former cricketer, and his mother, Manju Sharma, is a housewife. He has two sisters, Komal and Sonia Sharma. Abhishek Sharma attended Delhi Public School and excelled academically. He also represented his school’s team in several games. Abhishek completed his higher education at G D Goenka University. He was chosen for the state squad and participated in his age-group matches for the state after playing for his school’s team.

Abhishek Sharma Cricket Career

Abhishek began by playing with his fellow students and learning the fundamentals of cricket from his father. He received training from his father at a local sports club, where he practiced and competed against local teams. He made his List A debut for Punjab in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2017, followed by his first-class debut in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy the same year.

Abhishek Sharma U-19 Career

Abhishek Sharma made his Under-19 debut for Punjab in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scoring a hundred. In addition to his important role in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, Abhishek led India to victory in the U-19 Asia Cup in 2016.

Abhishek Sharma IPL Career

In January 2018, he was purchased by the Delhi Daredevils for Rs 5.5 million at the 2018 IPL auction. On May 12, 2018, he made his T20 debut for the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 Indian Premier League, scoring 46 runs off 19 balls. On February 28, 2021, while playing for Punjab against Madhya Pradesh, he scored the fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket in 42 balls.

In February 2022, he was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the auction for the Indian Premier League tournament. He played 14 IPL 2022 matches and scored 426 runs. In the IPL 2024, he hit the fastest fifty for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal. Abhishek Sharma scored an impressive 484 runs in 16 IPL 2024 matches, with a strike rate of around 200. He was Sunrisers Hyderabad's second-highest run-scorer after Travis Head, with 42 sixes.
