Another Indian streaming juggernaut, like Netflix, makes it tough for customers to share passwords. According to rumours, Disney+ Hotstar is taking measures to prevent its premium members from sharing passwords. According to the report, the business intends to implement a new rule that will limit premium customers' ability to log in from more than four devices. In particular, in an important market for Disney, this action is being taken as a strategy to address the problem of password sharing. Reuters reports that Disney is imitating Netflix. Netflix, Disney's streaming competitor, had previously put in place a comparable regulation in more than 100 nations back in May.
According to the story, Disney believed that by easing up on the stringent enforcement of the four-device login rule, it would draw users who could use password sharing to sign up for the service. Media Partners Asia predicts that Disney, Netflix, Amazon, and Jio Cinema have all experienced significant growth in popularity in India. This industry is anticipated to reach a market size of $7 billion by 2027, or roughly Rs 57,530 crore.
A premium subscription in India still permits logins on up to 10 devices for streaming, despite Disney+ Hotstar's website only allowing four devices to be logged in. Disney+ Hotstar has tested the policy internally and plans to put it into effect later this year, limiting logins for such accounts to four devices. According to insiders who spoke to Reuters, this change may push some customers to buy their own memberships. The article claims that Disney+ Hotstar in India did not enforce the four-device login policy because it did not want to inconvenience its premium subscribers and discovered internally that barely 5% of them checked in from more than four devices.
