Alka Yagnik Suffers From A Rare Hearing Disorder; Wishes To Shed Light on ‘Health Perils of Her Profession’

Bollywood Update:  Alka Yagnik took to her Instagram to share the tragic news of her loss of hearing resulting in her ‘missing in action’ lately. The Bollywood playback singer is known for popular songs like ‘Udja Kale Kawan’ and ‘Gore Gore Mukhde Pe’ songs for blockbuster movies ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Suhaag’ respectively. 

“I was not able to hear anything”

Alka Yagnik is a household name in the Bollywood music fraternity. She has amassed immense popularity over a career spanning four decades in the industry. She revealed the news of her hearing ailment on her social media in a long post with a picture of her young self. Addressing her “fans, friends, followers and well-wishers” she penned a heart-wrenching caption detailing the realisation of her illness. She recalled an incident over a week ago when ‘as she walked out of a flight, she suddenly felt she was not able to hear anything.’ elaborating upon her illness she wrote “It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack.”

It took her some weeks to ‘muster some courage’ to break her silence on narrating the plight she has been experiencing. The rare hearing loss has been the reason for her to stay off the grid for some time. The awareness of the disorder has caught her ‘completely unaware’ becoming a major setback in her personal and professional life. Further, she urged her admirers to keep her in the prayers writing “As I attempt to come to terms with it please keep me in your prayers.”  

“Wish to share the health perils of my professional life”

In the distressing times, Yagnik asked her fans to keep her in their prayers. Additionally, she shed light on how her professional mandates had led to an adverse affect on her health. From her experience she wants her fellow singers and music artists to take it as a cautionary tale. She wrote, “ I would add a word of caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones.” As someone whose profession demands her to work amid damaging work gear, she hopes to one day bring to light the “ health perils of my professional life” as a playback singer.   

In her successful career in Bollywood singing, Alka Yagnik has lent her voice to a plethora of Bollywood actresses across generations from Rakhee Gulzar, Hema Malini, Farida Jalal, Rekha, Kajol, and Preity G Zinta. She is also the singer who sang ‘Naram Kaalja’ for Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Amar Singh Chamkila.’
