Netflix has just revealed the release date for its next movie Amar Singh Chamkila, which stars Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh in the key roles. The musician with the most record sales at the time was Punjab’s Amar Singh Chamkila. The teaser begins with the writing, “Netflix presents the untold true story of the greatest singer of his time. The highest record selling artist of Punjab. Died at age 27.” A glimpse of Diljit Dosanjh as Amar Singh Chamkila can be seen at the end of the teaser.
The film is directed by Imtiaz Ali and tells the untold true story of Punjab’s first mass-market rockstar, Amar Singh Chamkila, who rose from the depths of poverty to the pinnacles of popularity in the 1980s thanks to the sheer power of his music. Along the way, he infuriated many people, which ultimately resulted in his murder at the young age of 27. The audience will once again get to experience the wonder of a Rahman-Imtiaz collaboration with the legendary AR Rahman presenting the film's music. Both Diljit and Parineeti have contributed their voices to the songs. Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Reliance Entertainment are the producers of the movie.
Playing the title character, actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh said, “Playing Amar Singh Chamkila has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life, and I am thrilled to be returning to Netflix with yet another exciting story. It has been a pleasure to work with Parineeti and the entire team that has worked extremely hard to bring this beautiful story to life. To be able to sing to Rahman sir's exemplary music was a meditative experience and I hope I have been able to do justice to his vision. Thank you Imtiaz for believing in me for this role.”
