Ameen Sayani Death:  The legendary pioneering figure in the radio and broadcast industry of Hindi cinema, Ameen Sayani died at 91. The man was the much-celebrated radio presenter behind the popular show, ‘Binaca Geetmala’. His cause of death has been reported as a cardiac arrest by his son.

Ameen Sayani Family & Education

Ameen Sayani was born in Mumbai on 21 December 1932 into a Gujarati Muslim family. His father Janmohammed Sayani was a medical doctor by profession and Ameen used to help her mother Kulsum Sayani, a freedom fighter with her literary journals. Both of his parents were part of the country’s freedom struggle. Ameen was a graduate of Mumbai University with a degree in History.  

He was married to Rama Mathur, a Kashmiri Pandit. 

Ameen Sayani Career 

Ameen Sayani’s popularity rose with his legendary program Binaca Geetmala airing on Radio Ceylon. The show was a massive sensation in its time and beyond that with fascinated audience Sayani earned with his characteristic delivery style and a curated selection of Hindi cinema’s hit songs.    

Introduced to the world of listeners and presenters at the age of 7 by his elder brother, Hamid Sayani, an English presenter himself in All India Radio, Ameen developed an inclination towards radio at a tender age.     

Versed in Hindi, Hindustani, and Gujrati, Ameen found his footing in simple communication while helping his mother `which transpired into providing him a unique flair in his style of presenting. 

Ameen Sayani Awards & Achievements 

Sayani has many laurels to his name. He was awarded the Hindi Ratna Puruskar by Hindi Bhavan, New Delhi in 2007. He was honored with a Padma Shree in 2009, the Living Legend Award in 2006, the Kaan Hall of Fame Award (Radio Mirchi) in 2003, the Hall of Fame Award (IAAFA), OUTSTANDING RADIO CAMPAIGN OF THE CENTURY for Binaca Geetmala by Golden Abby by Advertising club, Mumbai and Person of The Year Award in 1992 bestowed by the Limca Book of Records.
