Amrit Bharat Station: Indian Govt Announces “Amrit Stations,” Renovation of Railway Stations With Specified Themes

27 May, 2025

Amrit Bharat Station: The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, launched by the Indian government, is significantly transforming the country’s railway infrastructure. A total of 103 railway stations, now known as “Amrit Stations,” are being refurbished to meet international standards, including contemporary amenities and improved aesthetics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally announced the addition of these stations to the plan. The effort intends to improve the passenger experience by providing amenities including covered platforms, clean restrooms, comfortable waiting rooms, elevators, better signage, free Wi-Fi, and information kiosks. Furthermore, efforts are made to provide cleaner, greener environments and better accessibility through widened roadways, pedestrian walkways, and additional parking.

Theme For Each Railway Station

Each Amrit Station is being designed specifically to showcase regional art, culture, and legacy through various architectural motifs. For example, Ahmedabad station is inspired by the Modhera Sun Temple, Dwarka station is modelled after the Dwarakadheesh Temple, and Balasore station in Odisha incorporates aspects from the Jagannath Temple. Stations such as Gurugram have an IT motif, whilst Tamil Nadu’s Kumkodam station features Chola architecture.  Roof plazas, food courts, landscaped areas, and children’s play zones are among the enhancements planned. This ambitious program aims to redefine Indian railway stations as symbols of cultural pride and contemporary infrastructure, rather than just transit hubs.
