Anasuya Sengupta was born on September 1, 1986, in Kolkata, to a Bengali family. She graduated from Jadavpur University with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature, but her ambition was to become a journalist. There is no other information available about her family.
Sengupta had a supporting role in Anjan Dutt's 2009 film ‘Madly Bangalee’. She had a brief career in theater before deciding in 2013 to relocate to Mumbai. She started her career as a set designer during that period, producing artistic backdrops for various projects. She gained a close-up view of the industry by using her imagination, creativity, and skills to create sets and create productions for movies and web series like Netflix’s ‘Masaba Masaba’.
Anasuya landed her role as “Renuka” on ‘The Shameless’ by coincidence. The young actress revealed in an interview that Bojanov, a Facebook friend, asked her to try out for a part in his Hindi movie. The Bulgarian director stated in a Cannes interview that he was certain she was the right person for the part from the start and is currently searching for someone to cast in his upcoming film. The Shameless is a noir thriller set in the context of the centuries-old Devdasi system. The actress won Best Actress in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes 2024, which has yet to be released in India.
