Cannes 2024: This year’s 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has been a historical event for India, from iconic fashion moments to receiving awards. While celebs including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Urvashi Rautela, Kiara Advani, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sobhita Dhulipala amazed audiences with their exquisite Red Carpet appearances, newbies including influencers like Nancy Tyagi became everyone’s favourite at the Festiva de Cannes. As India was already leading the fashion game at the French Riviera, big news from the award section filled our chests with pride. Anasuya Sengupta became the first Indian ever to win the Best Actress at Cannes, scripting history on international grounds. 

Anasuya Sengupta Wins Best Actress At Cannes

Kolkata-born Anasuya Sengupta made history when she won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Indian to do so. Sengupta received the award in the “Un Certain Regard” category for her performance in Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov’s film ‘The Shameless,’ in which she plays a sex worker fleeing a Delhi brothel after murdering a cop. Sengupta is an accomplished art director who has worked on feature films such as Sanjeev Sharma’s ‘Saat Uchakkey’ and Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Forget Me Not’. Congratulating Sengupta on her achievement, Bollywood celebs including Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Zoya Akhtar, Bhumi Pednekar, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Ayushmann Khurrana, and others sent warm wishes to Sengupta for making India proud.

Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light Wins Big

It would be better if we say Indian women are making history at Cannes, as after Anasuya’s big win, Payal Kapadia’s directorial debut drama ‘All We Imagine As Light’ won the Grand Prix award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Indian film in three decades and the first by an Indian woman director to win at the festival’s main competition. The feature film received a grand acknowledgement with a long 8-minute standing ovation from the crowd. ‘All We Imagine as Light’ is an Indo-French collaboration, co-produced by Petit Chaos from France and Chalk and Cheese Films from India. The Bollywood fraternity beamed with happiness and congratulated Kapadia. Richa Chaddha, Saba Azad, Kiara Advani, Aditi Rao Hydari, Anurag Kashyap, Shekhar Kapur, Radhika Apte, including many others posted heartwarming wishes to Kapadia for this big achievement.
