Arvind Swamy is one such actor who made his debut in a Tamil language film, and expanded his foray into Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam film industry with an equal dexterity and appeal. Arvind Swamy Biography 

Arvind Swamy is an actor, director, and entrepreneur boasting of a filmography across south Indian and Hindi language cinema. He made his impressive debut in 1991 with Mani Ratnam’s ‘Thalapathi’ and since then his life story has been nothing short of a film story with many twists and turns, out which Swamy emerged still swimming above water. 

Early Life and Education 

Born to industrialist VD Swamy and Bharatanatyam dancer Vasantha on 18 June 1870, Swamy wished to be a doctor as a child. He turned to modeling in his college years to earn pocket money. His ads from college day landed him an opportunity to work with Mani Ratnam for his first film. 

Swamy has a Bachelor’s in Commerce degree from Loyola College, Madras and a Master’s degree in International Business from Wake Forest University, North Carolina. 

Film Career 

After his Tamil debut, his films Roja and Bombay went on to become mega hits earning his critical acclaim along with National Awards in 1995. He was the voice behind Disney’s The Lion King character of adult Simba for its Tamil version in 1994. In 1998, he made his Bollywood debut with Juhi Chawla in Saat Rang Ka Sapne.

Till 2000, his career flourished with Minsaara Kanavu winning four National Awards. From the 1990s to 2000, a hard time gripped him with many of his films getting shelved in production stages leading to his partial retirement. 

In 2013, he returned on screen again with Mani Ratnam for his drama film ‘Kadal’, followed by Thani Oruvan, Dhruva, Dear Dad, Bogan, and Thailaivii.  

Entrepreneurial Ventures 

During his retirement from screen, he channeled his ambition into business ventures with  V D Swamy and Company, his father’s business. He started his own venture- Talent Maximus, a payroll processing and temporary staffing company in 2015, followed by a clothing brand ‘Deivee’ in 2016  

Talent Maximus' is reported to generate a revenue of USD 418 million (Rs 3300 crore). in 2022.
