Aurangzeb Tomb Row:  In the recent light of the Aurangzeb row, right-wing organizations including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have warned the Maharashtra government to demolish his tomb. Some of the leaders from the Bhartiya Janta Party have also expressed their support for the row. But have you wondered, why the Mughal emperor wished to be buried in Sambhaji Nagar?

Aurangzeb revered the Sufi saint Khwaja Sayyid Zainuddin Shirazi profoundly and wished his grave to be beside the grave of the saint. Hence he instructed his son Azam Shah to bury him near the saint in a grave made from his hard-earned money that he made from sewing caps.

On March 3, 1707, he passed away near Ahmadnagar after suffering from a high fever, and as per his instruction, his son buried him in Khuldabad.
