Chaitra Navratri 2025: One of the major fasting festivals of Hindus, Chaitra Navratri 2025 begins on 30 March this year. The nine days of fasting and worshiping the nine forms of Goddess Durga is the prime objective of Chaitra Navratri. The nine forms or the Navdurga are known to embody different skills, divine energies, and purpose. 3rd April will mark the fifth Navratri of the Chaitra month. On this day Goddess Skandamata is worshipped with the devotees following the puja rituals, colors, and holy offerings preferred by the form of Goddess Skandamata. 

Navratri Day 5 Goddess Skandamata 

Goddess Skandamata gets her name from her son Kartikeya who she carries on her lap in his child form. Skanda or Murugan is another name of Lord Kartikeya and Mata translated to Mother, hence Skandamata stands for Mother of Lord Skanda/Kartikeya. She is pictured mounted on a lion symbolizing strength and power with Kartikeya on her lap. She has four arms, with two she holds a lotus in each, with one hand she holds baby Kartikeya and she has the Abhayamudra in the other hand.  

Significance of Goddess Skandamata

Goddess Skandamata is the embodiment of the Goddess’s maternal love, protection, and strength. She is believed to bring prosperity and spiritual growth to her devotees. Worshipping her is believed to bring peace and harmony to a household. She is associated with the Vishuddha Chakra (throat chakra), which governs communication and expression. Hence worshipping her is known to purify thoughts. 

Color Associated with Goddess Skandamata

The nine forms of the Goddess are associated with a particular color symbolizing their nature and strengths. Goddess Skandamata is associated with the color yellow. Yellow represents the positivity and optimism on the day motivating devotees to embrace the Goddess with happiness and positivity. 

Offering to Goddess Skandamata

The special Bhog or the holy offering liked the most by Goddess Skandamata is bananas. The goddess is fond of bananas hence including it in her bhog will be auspicious. You can additionally pair the bananas with jaggery.

Puja Rituals for Goddess Skandamata

The devotees worshipping Goddess Skandamata should wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. With fresh clothes on their body, they should be offering flowers to the Goddess followed by worshipping her with incense sticks, gangajal, ghee, and aarti. Conclude the prayer with a banana bhog to Goddess Skandamata.
