06 Nov, 2024

Chhath Puja 2024: The festival of Chhath is not a mere celebration of belief but also a display of the strong inter-religious ties of a country as diverse as India. At the Veerchand Patel Path in the Kotwali area of Patna, a Muslim woman relentlessly makes earthen stoves used to cook prayer food under the sun.

Talking about her work she shared that it is a generational craft passed down from her ancestors to her parents and then to her. She learned the process of making these stoves at a young age, and today she continues to make them every year while following several rules during the making period to maintain the sanctity of the Goddess. Skipping certain food items, and taking a bath before working are the basic rules they follow when making the stoves for Chhath Puja.

Learn more about the Muslim woman and her generational work of preparing stoves for a Hindu festival.
