Indian-origin mathematician CR Rao conferred with math ‘Nobel Prize’

The 2023 International Prize in Statistics, considered to be the Nobel Prize of Statistics, will be awarded to renowned Indian-American mathematician and statistician Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao. In the subject of statistics and its applications in other fields, including medical research, CR Rao made significant contributions. Rao, who is currently 102 years old, will receive the honour and a $80,000 prize in July at the International Statistical Institute's biennial World Statistics Congress in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
 

D Gukesh Won title at World Chess Armageddon Asia & Oceania Event

The Armageddon Championship Series: Asia and Oceania was won by D Gukesh after he defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the Finals. Due to the double elimination format of the competition, Gukesh received a second chance after falling to Abdusattorov by a score of 1.5 to 0.5 in the opening match of the Finals. By defeating the previous World Rapid champion with the same score, he took it. Gukesh overcame Yangyi Yu, Abdusattorov, and Vladimir Kramnik on his way to the victory.
