Ajay Banga nominated by US President Joe Biden

Ajay Banga, an Indian-American businessman, was named to lead the World Bank by US President Joe Biden on Thursday. Banga, 63, will become the first Indian-American to lead either of the two leading international financial organisations, the World Bank or the International Monetary Fund, if she is approved by the World Bank board of directors.

 

Peru declares health emergency over dengue outbreak

Due to a dengue outbreak, Peru on Thursday declared a "health emergency" in 13 departments in the north, centre, and southeast of the country. An official notice stated that the emergency would last for 90 days after the health ministry discovered more than 11,500 cases and 16 fatalities associated with the illness so far in 2023. This represented a "considerable increase" of 72 percent from the same period in 2022. Last year, the country had more than 72,800 dengue cases and 84 deaths. 

 

3-Day All India Inter SAI Taekwondo Championship to commence in Delhi from Feb 24

The All India Inter SAI Taekwondo Championship is being co-hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre in India, the Sports Authority of India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India, and Korea National Sport University to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and India in 2023. Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Sports Minister, will open the three-day competition on February 24 at the IG Stadium in New Delhi.
