In Colombia, males between the ages of 18 and 24 are required to serve in the military. In order to maintain bases, safeguard infrastructure, and handle administrative duties, the army heavily relies on the young recruits who sign up for a 12-month term, while its professional soldiers engage drug cartels and rebel organisations.
