Women’s World Boxing Championships New Delhi 2023

The IBA Women's World Boxing Championship 2023 will take place in New Delhi at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex from March 15–26. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has appointed Mahindra as the event's title sponsor, and MC Mary Kom and Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar have been named as brand ambassadors. India is the host nation for the event for the third time in history. The appearance of Marykom and Bollywood icon Farhan Akhtar will significantly further the BFI's mission of encouraging female boxing participation. 

 

India becomes world’s largest arms importer

Despite an 11% reduction in arms acquisitions between 2013–17 and 2018–22, India is remains the world's top importer of military equipment, according to a research by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri). The research is made public at a time when India has stepped its attempts to become independent in the field of defence manufacture. Around Rs 1 lakh crore was allocated for domestic purchases in the defence budget this year as opposed to Rs 84,598 crore, Rs 70,221 crore, and Rs 51,000 crore in the three years prior.

 

Veteran actor Sameer Khakhar Passed Away

Sameer Khakhar, a veteran actor best known for playing Khopri in the television series Nukkad, passed away on 15 March. He was a 71-year-old actor. In the 38 years of his acting career, he appeared in a number of TV episodes and movies. The actor had relocated to the United States after a brief hiatus from show business. Afterwards, he performed in two Gujarati plays and made a name for himself as the popular Jai Ho role in Salman Khan's movie.
