Silicon Valley Bank Sold to First Citizens Bank
First Citizens BancShares, a North Carolina family-run bank with roots dating back to the late 1800s, announced on Sunday that it would buy Silicon Valley Bank, a California lender established in the 1980s at the epicentre of the technology sector, whose explosive growth and abrupt demise this month stunned the financial world. The largest bank failure in the nation since the 2008 financial crisis occurred on March 10 when the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation took over operation of Silicon Valley Bank after a run on its deposits rendered it insolvent.
