Delhi Air Pollution: Every year around Diwali, Delhi earns the name of a ‘gas chamber’ due to the severe air pollution in the city with crackers and stubble burning. This year, the situation has worsened earlier than Diwali with the air quality index already falling into the bad category.
The Air Quality Index in Delhi has spiked to 234 which places it into the ‘bad’ category. The current air quality index makes matters of health and well-being worse for people prone to illness or suffering from diseases like Malaria or dengue, the rate of which has been the highest in the last five years. A Graded Action Response Plan (GARP) has been in place by Delhi CM Atishi Singh with 99 teams deployed at construction sites for dust control measures.
